Why does galvanized strip steel get moldy?

Galvanized strip steel is steel sheet that has been uniformly coated with a layer of zinc. Hot-dip galvanizing produces a coating that is both uniform and highly adhesive, with an exceptionally long service life. During the hot-dip galvanizing process, the zinc layer undergoes chemical and physical reactions with the steel substrate, forming a tightly structured zinc-iron alloy layer that integrates seamlessly with the steel strip, thus providing outstanding corrosion resistance. However, even under these conditions, we sometimes still observe mold growth on galvanized strip steel during use. This occurs because moisture condenses on the surface of hot-dip galvanized strip steel, and since zinc readily oxidizes in air, rust can form on its surface. When selecting hot-dip galvanized strip steel products, it’s important to pay attention to the thickness of the coating and the smoothness of the surface. Additionally, be sure to avoid exposing the surface of the hot-dip galvanized strip steel to corrosive substances. Also, do not store hot-dip galvanized strip steel products indoors if the room temperature is excessively high or if the products have not yet fully dried.
