Properly cleaning the surface of galvanized strip steel will extend its service life.

Do a good job Galvanized strip steel Cleaning its surface will extend its service life.
Everyone should understand that throughout the entire process of using galvanized strip steel, Galvanized strip steel Basic maintenance is extremely crucial; if we cannot properly address and maintain it, Galvanized strip steel Therefore, it will cause significant harm on many levels. Hence, we hope that everyone will not overlook this issue. So, how should galvanized steel strips be maintained and cared for?

After being used for a certain period, galvanized strip steel must be maintained and serviced on schedule to keep its surface clean. Since the surface of galvanized strip steel is typically either hot-dip galvanized or cold-galvanized, it’s essential to protect the zinc coating to prevent the zinc layer from peeling off due to inadequate protection. Moreover, ensuring that the surface of the galvanized strip steel remains clean can significantly extend its service life. In fact, under normal conditions, maintaining galvanized strip steel is quite straightforward: as long as the surface is kept clean and free of oil stains, the surface will have a glossy appearance, the zinc coating will remain well-protected, and the strip steel’s service life will be substantially longer.

During the maintenance of galvanized steel strips, it’s important to note that some of these strips are installed in areas such as pharmaceutical plants and wastewater treatment facilities, where corrosion is particularly severe. Therefore, during repair and maintenance, care should be taken to protect the galvanized layer of the steel strips, thereby enhancing their corrosion resistance. Additionally, given the variety of materials used in these strips, efforts should be made to minimize excessive weight. Different specifications and varying load requirements—these key points can be discussed and agreed upon with the galvanized steel strip manufacturer when placing an order.

After hot-dip galvanizing, the surface of the strip steel typically appears silver-colored, since zinc itself has a silvery hue. Of course, some strips are painted dark blue. The purpose of galvanizing is to produce a smooth surface on the strip steel and prevent rusting. However, some hot-dip galvanized strip steels may still rust after galvanization—this is due to the materials commonly used. If the material is iron, it may be because of the principle of anodic protection, which helps safeguard the interior of the negative electrode against corrosion.

Some hot-dip galvanized steel strips must undergo passivation treatment after galvanizing to enhance their corrosion resistance. Immediately after galvanizing, the steel strips have a pale yellow or light yellow color; subsequently, through a sodium cyanide film removal process (acid-base neutralization), they turn silver-colored (zinc-colored). After passivation treatment, different colors can be achieved—such as light blue, multicolored, gray-black, or even pale yellow and other unique shades—depending on customer requirements. The authenticity and quality of hot-dip galvanized steel strips are primarily determined by the thickness of the zinc coating. Typically, the thickness of hot-dip galvanized steel strips reaches over 70 mm, while that of commonly cold-galvanized steel strips can reach up to 11 mm.

The quality of galvanization directly affects the price of hot-dip galvanized strip steel. Generally, the thicker the zinc coating on hot-dip galvanized strip steel, the higher its price will be. However, in reality, there’s a practical upper limit to how much the thickness can increase—manufacturers must also factor in their own production costs.
